Finally, it begins. The Royals quest to become the 2009 AL Central Division Chamions begins today. Gil Meche vs. Mark Buerhle at frigid U.S. Cellular field. I'll be there sporting my Royals gear and freezing my balls off. Let's get a win today and get this season off to a good start.
I'll have more after the game. But let me make you one promise: If I see William Ligue, Jr. or his son Michael, I will avenge Tom Gamboa. And I might just take it further than the wrath of Eggs' Pink Lemonade.
Are you ready for Mark Teahen in the 3 hole? I hope so - cause it is so happening. Is Kevin Seitzer the second coming? It is Easter week, and if Teahen continues to crush balls out to left center field, then maybe we're on to something...
I'd like to see Billy Butler smash a few balls today. He murders lefties and I think I would like to see him pull a big fly today.
I'm anxious to see how Hillman uses the pen this week. We should find out who his true set up man is: Farnsworth or Cruz. I sure hope Cruz gets the call in sticky situations. I don't trust Farnsworth yet in a tough spot. I wanted to type "Farny" there to save some key strokes, but I just can't allow myself to do that. I hate Buddy Bell.
I can't wait to see some of the Bullpen Boys on Friday in KC for the home opener. The home opener is my favorite day of the year - it easily surpasses Christmas. The best two days of the baseball season are the home opener and the first day of the year when Milton Bradley threatens to kill someone with his barehands. I eagerily await both.
I don't think you're going to like what you see out of Mike Jacobs today - just a warning to not freak out when he has 3 K's today.
My prediction: Royals 6 White Sox 4. Meche goes 6 IP with 3 ER. Butler with a 2 run bomb. Guillen with a 2 RBI double. Soria with a 1-2-3 9th for his 1st save of the year.
Exit Question: What's your prediction for today, and for the 3 game set?

All of my easter eggs are in Friday's basket. If Ponson throws a complete game, Hatt and I will reenact the stations of the cross in Times Square to the bewilderment and violent consequence of the rowdy NY crowd (we'll both be wearing Gilgameche tees). Women will cry. Ponson's burden will be our cross to bear.
As for today, my click to pick is Teahen...cycle.
Very solid post there Sweetums. I look forward to hearing how you're received in NY. I will also be sporting the Gilgameche shirt today for his start in Chicago. It's like wearing a dr. woo t-shirt to an ACB's show. And yes, I've done that before as well.
Pick to Click: I'm sticking with Butler

Good call sir. Hopefully this changes. Tough Loss
Trey Hillman has got to go. Plain and simple. The guy proved he was an idiot last year, but we hoped maybe things would change. That hope now seems foolish and naive. I, like many of you I'm sure, was shocked and appalled yesterday when I read his quote about Farnsworth being the set-up man, and here we go. It cost us a game right out of the gate to a division rival.
Fuck you Hillman, I'm through with you. You have no business being a major league manager.
